Samhain It Is...
Pronounced "sow-in", “saa-wn”, “sah-win”,
“sow-en” depending on where you are from, is a deeply significant and revered festival in the practice of witchcraft. It is a time of profound significance, offering a potent connection to the spirit world and a chance for personal growth and transformation. It serves as a reminder of the deep-rooted ties between witches and their ancestors and a celebration of the cycles of life,
death, and rebirth that are at the core of the craft. Samhain is often referred to as the "Witch's New Year" because it signifies a turning point in the witch's calendar.
Samhain is a liminal period when the boundary between the
world of the living and the world of the dead is at its thinnest. The concept of the thinning veil is central to Samhain in witchcraft. It is believed that during this time, communication with the spirit world is particularly potent. Witches and practitioners use this opportunity to connect with ancestors, spirit guides, and other entities.
Honoring and working with our ancestors is a
cornerstone of many witchcraft traditions. We set up ancestral altars, light candles, and offer food, drink, and tokens to our beloved departed ones. This practice not only pays homage to our ancestors but also fosters a deeper connection and a source of wisdom and guidance.
Samhain is an ideal time for divination in witchcraft. We
engage in activities such as scrying, tarot reading, or pendulum work to gain insight into the coming year. Samhain marks the point where the cold era begins, giving us the perfect starting point for our introspection and shadow work, where witches confront and embrace their inner shadows and personal growth.
Blessed Samhain to you all! May the New Witches Year bring Peace & Abundance!
